TheXFP transceiver(10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable), defined by an industry group in 2002, is a standard transceiver for high-speed computer network and telecommunication links. The XFP transceiver module connects the electrical circuitry of the system with the optical network, widely used in 10 Gigabit per second SONET/SDH, Fibre Channel, gigabit Ethernet, 10 gigabit Ethernet and other applications, including DWDM links. The physical dimensions of the XFP transceiver are slightly larger than the original small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver. One of the reasons for the increase in size is to allow for on-board heat sinks for greater cooling.
